Program sailing accessible for people with disabilities (G3BCN. Vidreres. Girona)





This initiative, under the name "An ocean without obstacles," brings together several actions that have been designed by professionals and specialists in this field and will work separately the three areas.

More than 1000 people with disabilities visits the wall of Avila - "la Muralla de Ávila" each year.




A total of 1,087 disabled people have used the accessible section of the wall of Avila since its opening in February last year. The month with more visitors in June, surpassing the 800 visits, followed in May and August (66 and 92, respectively), according to the City Council of Ávila.

It is a stretch between Arcos del Carmen and the Bridge, which includes an elevator and a ramp to allow access for persons with physical disabilities. This route, of 508 meters in length, includes a section that allows any person with disabilities up to twelve feet high in the west of the wall.

In this way there are two points of tourist information available, equipped with models made in bronze Blind (adapted for the use of blind persons) located at the gates of the Alcazar and the trace of the monument. Madrid and London, cities that offer sightseeing tours designed for people with disabilities.




Madrid is the city that offers more affordable prices for organized tours, is the unique that arranges visits and tours in Japanese, and is also the only place where there are views designed for people with physical, visual, auditory and / or intellectual.


This emerges from a comparative study undertaken by the Tourism Council of Madrid on how to organize such activities in nine cities across Europe and America (Madrid, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, London, Paris, Rome, Seville and New York).


According to this study, Madrid and London are the unique cities of the analyzed that offer tours for people with physical disabilities, but only in Madrid there are also guided tours for people with physical, visual, auditory and / or intellectual disabilities.


The study shows that Madrid, near Barcelona, is the unique city among the cities analysed that has a program of visits organized by a public entity. Moreover, Madrid is the unique city where visits are conducted in Japanese.

The Metro of Madrid, the most accessible




The Madrid is a world reference in accessibility for people with mobility problems. This follows from the results that place Metro de Madrid at the top ranking for number of escalators and elevators installed on your network.


Furthermore, the Committee of Organizations of Disabled Representatives of the Community of Madrid (CERMI) gave the Consorcio Regional de Transportes de Madrid Prodis 2009 X Prize Anniversary in the category of entities, reports elEconomista.es.

Avila in the League of Historical Accessible Cities.



Avila City Council will be integrated into the League of Historical Cities Accessible, created by the European Consortium of Foundations on Human Rights and Disability, representing Spain by the ONCE Foundation.


This action aims to improve accessibility and promote historic cities through concrete pilot actions, serve as a center for exchanging knowledge and best practices and develop pilot projects that can serve as inspiration for other foundations, cities and other interested parties.


These performances will be leaded by a group of foundations, closely related to a historic city. The initial working group will be constitued by the Banca del Monte di Lucca, Italy; Fondation de France, France; Calouste Gulbenkian, Portugal, and the Spanish ONCE Foundation, which has chosen the city of Avila to fulfill the conditions of historical and advanced work and experience in accessibility.


There are other foundations that were interested in the project and are assessing their integration, including Vakfi Sabanci, Turkey; Realdania Foundation, Denmark, and The Atlantic Philanthropies, who is American but has offices and work in Ireland.

Accessible CALPE (Alicante)
