Avila in the League of Historical Accessible Cities.



Avila City Council will be integrated into the League of Historical Cities Accessible, created by the European Consortium of Foundations on Human Rights and Disability, representing Spain by the ONCE Foundation.


This action aims to improve accessibility and promote historic cities through concrete pilot actions, serve as a center for exchanging knowledge and best practices and develop pilot projects that can serve as inspiration for other foundations, cities and other interested parties.


These performances will be leaded by a group of foundations, closely related to a historic city. The initial working group will be constitued by the Banca del Monte di Lucca, Italy; Fondation de France, France; Calouste Gulbenkian, Portugal, and the Spanish ONCE Foundation, which has chosen the city of Avila to fulfill the conditions of historical and advanced work and experience in accessibility.


There are other foundations that were interested in the project and are assessing their integration, including Vakfi Sabanci, Turkey; Realdania Foundation, Denmark, and The Atlantic Philanthropies, who is American but has offices and work in Ireland.


In the first meeting established the first activities to be performed and which are intended to improve and promote the accessibility of cities in specific points (monuments, streets), to exchange information, knowledge and good practices and disseminate the various projects League pilot.
